WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrader mod that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item upgrading level, however, they are always cheaper than buying new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with an button, which will display an image of the item at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item upgrading is upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found at many locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of obtaining the latest recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

Crests

When upgrading gear in WoW, players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific level upgrades for items. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to gear that is of a particular rank. Each rank has an upgrade path that is different. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade item process. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment you have and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
